Our new mare, Altair VIII, is in foal to this amazing stallion and is due in April 2010. Quejio is owned and bred by Yeguada Aimaran (http://www.yeguadaaimaran.com/) and will soon be available via frozen semen.

Introducing Valiente B

On Saturday 12th December Darnela gave birth to a stunning black colt. We've named him Valiente B (pend) which means "fearless" in Spanish. He is a bold, outgoing, confident colt with lovely straight movement.

Estimada B - Champion purebred

Our filly, Estimada B (Mas Martillo x Darnela) was awarded Champion Purebred Andalusian at the Lancefield Agricultural Show on Sunday 18th October. It was only her second show and she behaved very well. She had been turned out since the Nationals at Tatura in March, so on Saturday we brought her in and washed her, then clipped her mane and tail. She had a quick lunge as a reminder then off to the show the next day! A testament to the wonderful nature of the Andalusian horse.

Altair VIII has arrived!

Our beautiful new mare has finally arrived from Spain. She was delievered on Monday 21st September and will now remain in quarantine on our property until late May 2010, after her foal is born.

Standing 1.60m, she is compact, classical, and very very beautiful! Her movement is amazing - she has so much elevation and drive. We have been amazed with her adaptability; she has settled into her new routine quickly and easily. She is a delight to handle and very people orientated, happily following me around like a shadow as I clean her paddock.

Altair VIII is on her way

Altair, our new mare, has spent the last three weeks in quarantine in the UK. This morning she was loaded onto the plane and, along with another PRE mare and foal owned by NSW breeder Michael Rodriguez, is now mid-air! They are due to arrive approx 12.00pm tomorrow (Saturday 29th).

Altair will be held in quarantine at the Eastern Creek station until late September. After this she will be transported to our property and remain there in quarantine until one month after she has foaled (she's due late April 2010). Our plan is to hopefully use the last of our frozen Clasico MAC semen on her late next year.

The photo below was taken the day she arrived in the UK after her three day truck ride from Spain.

Altair update and Pegaso for sale

We've had some bad news and some good news. The bad news is that AQIS have dramatically increased the quarantine fee from $65 per day to over $185 per day. This fee will increase in October, just when Altair is due to arrive! You can read more about this increase here:

So the good news is that Altair is now booked to come to Australia on an earlier flight and will arrive on the 27th of August.

Yeguada Aimaran have decided to sell one of their breeding stallions, the beautiful Pegaso (photos below). Pegaso is by Animador II so is a half brother to Altair. If you have a spare 35,000EURO, Pegaso may be the horse for you! He does extended trot, shoulder in, quarters in, half pass in trot and canter, single changes, half pirouettes in canter, flying changes, and piaffe and passage. He is sensitive and obedient, has extravagant movement and is sweet, easy and very well behaved. He is described as being a ladies horse. He has also sired very good quality colts and fillies. For further information, visit http://www.yeguadaaimaran.com/.

Quisquilloso MAC

In April Yeguada Cardenas attended EQUIMUR 2009, a large show in Spain for PRE horses. The lovely grey colt, Quisquilloso MAC (owned and bred by Yeguada Cardenas), son of Clasico MAC, won the Gold Medal in the class for foals to three year olds. He also won the award for Best Movement of the Section, and then was awarded Champion Junior.

Clasico MAC

We feel very fortunate to have been able to obtain frozen semen from this amazing stallion just prior to his death. Photos of the beautiful Cardenas horses, including Clasico MAC, may be seen in many of the Robert Vavra books. The following information about Clasico MAC has been taken from the Top Iberian website (http://www.topiberian.es/):

Clasico MAC (photo by Robert Vavra)

STRONG POINTS
Beautiful, very racial
Big movements
Noble character
Long shoulders

MORPHOLOGY
"Clásico-Mac" is a beautiful stallion with a strong presence. This dapple-grey horse of Cardenas has everything that one could ask for in a Purebred and not only aesthetically-speaking. He has thick, marvellous mane with a fine, old-fashioned face. But he is also very well formed. He has a good neck, four solid legs and a strong bone structure.

MOVEMENTS
"Clasico-Mac" can also move. "Clasico-Mac" has three very correct gaits. His trot is ground covering and suspended.

CHARACTER
"Clasico-Mac" has always been a leader in the herd of colts, he was always first. He came towards you so that you would pet him," says Miguel Angel de Cardenás. Riding him has been a delight says Juan Manuel Muñoz, the rider of the horse. The couple always obtained excellent results in functionality. "Clásico-Mac" has the typical disposition of a Pure Bred Spanish horse.

PEDIGREE
SIRE LINE: "Clásico-Mac" is high in kinship - the blood of "Bilbaino III" runs through his veins, not only by his mother, but also by his father. His father, "Gastador VIII," is a very important horse for breeding and another prize-winning example: in 1985 and 1991 he was the Absolute Champion of Spain. "Clasico-Mac" inherited the beauty of his father, and without a doubt, will pass it along.

DAMS LINE: "Clásico-Mac" is a very Pure Bred stallion from the Cardenas Studfarm. He is the son of "Lanzera V 1979", a mare who is the daughter of "Vasallo II" who D. Miguel Angel Cardenas acquired when he and his brother divided up the livestock after the death of their father. He liked "Lanzera V 1979" a lot and was not mistaken in his judgment of the horse, as "Lanzera V" has brought a lot of satisfaction to the studfarm. "Vasallo II" was Champion of Spain in 1972 and Champion of Champions in 1978.

Clasico MAC has 114 registered offspring, including one of the very few Calificado graded mares in Spain, Ilusa MAC. We hope that our colt, Valeroso B, grows up tall and proud like his father. We are honoured to have brought this prestigious blood line to Australia.

Altair set to come to Australia

We were very pleased to hear this week that Altair has passed all her pre-export blood tests, is pregnant, and is now all set to come to Australia! She will leave her stud in early September and be taken by road to the UK where she will spend three weeks in quarantine. She flies to Australia on the 1st of October, and will be down with us in Victoria in late October. We are so looking forward to having her home with us at long last!

Altair is in foal to her half brother, Quejio, a purebred Carthusian stallion. He is very beautiful and is Calificado. We are hoping that Altair will have a filly foal for us, and will use our Clasico MAC frozen semen with her in the 2010 breeding season.

The fuzzy foal!

Valeroso continues to grow into a very handsome colt. At this stage it looks like he will be tall like his sire, Clasico MAC. These photos were taken a few weeks ago when he was three months of age.

HISPANO XXVIII

Hispano XXVIII is the son of the imported mare Ordinaria (imp), a daughter of the legendary Maluso. Hispano is believed to be one of the last grandsons of this influential stallion still to be serving mares. Hispano's sire is the beautiful Manuka Montego (dec'd) who is by the imported stallion Hortelano VII.

We are expecting a foal by Hispano XXVIII out of Darnela in late December this year. This cross will combine the classical Carthusian origins of Darnela with the Military lines of Maluso - a traditional cross very popular in Spain and used to create horses like Invasor II. The Military lines supply functionality and calm temperament, and the Carthusian lines supply beauty and sweetness.

We are hoping for a filly foal so that she may be retained by the stud for breeding. If Darnela has a colt foal then he will be offered for sale upon weaning.

The old News!

Below are the old News updates from our website! Now that we have this blog spot, we thought it was better to list all the news here.

May 2009

Altair VIII has been purchased from Yeguada Aimaran in place of Ubeda! Altair is a very beautiful seven year old mare who has had three foals, and will come to Australia in foal to Quejio. She is currently undergoing her pre-export testing so we're keeping everything crossed that she passes these, and gets back into foal without ALTAIR VIII any difficulties.

April 2009

We have received the sad news that Ubeda has failed to conceive after five attempts so we are no longer proceeding with the purchase of her. The hunt is now on for another mare! Hopefully we'll have better luck this time.

February 2009

We are delighted to announce that on the 19th of February Anchorbar Forcilla gave birth to a lovely colt foal by Clasico MAC! We've named him Valeroso which means "valiant" or "brave" in Spanish. Valeroso is the only son of Clasico MAC, twice National Champion of Spain, in the southern hemisphere. Val is a lovely big foal with outstanding movement. We are absolutely delighted with him and plan to keep him as a stud stallion.

We also had the wonderful news that our old girl, Darnela, is back in foal! She is expecting her foal by Hispano on the 29th of December. We are hoping for a filly so that we can retain her for future breeding purposes. If she has a colt foal he will be available for sale upon weaning.

January 2009

In November last year we travelled to Spain to attend SICAB, the Cardenas auction and to visit some studs. While there we fell in love with a beautiful four year old mare from Yeguada Aimaran (http://www.yeguadaaimaran.com/). Her name is Ubeda XII and she is 85% Carthusian. She has passed all her blood tests and will be arriving in Australia mid to late this year. Last week she was covered by Quejio, a Calificado stallion who is pure Carthusian and absolutely stunning. Hopefully in a few weeks we’ll receive the news that she is pregnant! A big thank you to Aida and her father, Juan Huertas Montiel, for allowing us to purchase this beautiful girl and for their patience while we sorted out all the quarantine arrangements!

We are anxiously counting down the weeks until Cilla (Anchorbar Forcilla) has her foal. Early last year we imported some semen from Clasico-MAC from Spain. The semen became lost in transit in Bangkok, and at the same time we received news from Spain that Clasico-MAC had died and no further semen would be available! Thankfully our shipment was found and eventually ended up safely here in Australia. Cilla became pregnant on her second insemination attempt and we are very excited about this baby!

Bred and owned by the famous Cardenas stud (http://www.caballoscardenas.com/) in Spain, Clasico-MAC was a stunning stallion who passes on his beauty, size, movement and temperament to his offspring. This Qualified (Calificado) breeding stallion had an outstanding show record including being a two-time Champion of Spain. His impressive show record includes:

Sevilla 1999 – Champion of the Breed, Champion Functionality, Gold medallist
Piedrahita 2000 – Champion of Show, Gold medallist
Ecumad 2000 – Champion of Spain, Gold medallist
Sevilla 2001 – Champion of the Breed, Champion Functionality, Gold medallist
Piedrahita 2001 – Champion of the Breed, Gold medallist
Ecumad 2001 – Champion of Spain, Gold medallist

Clasico-MAC is by Gastador VIII who has produced two Champions of Spain – Clasico-MAC and Ungido IV. Gastador VIII is himself a twice Spanish Champion. Clasico-MAC is out of Lancera V 1979, a mare who produces very good foals and has had an enormous influence on the Cardenas stud. Daughters, grand-daughters and great-grandaughters from this mare are still used at the stud. Other influential and well known horses in the pedigree of Clasico-MAC include Valido, Vasallo and Bilbanio III. Miguel Angel Cardenas said that Clasico-MAC is the best horse he has ever bred. High praise indeed!
